Solid/Dry Film Lubricants
From aerospace manufacturing and food processing to heavy machinery fabrication and infrastructure creation, metals and plastics are widely used construction materials. When exposed to friction and harsh environments, however, they will begin to degrade. Safeguard your critical assets with solid or dry film lubricants from Delta Coatings.
Solid/Dry Film Lubricant Benefits
Dry film lubricants, also known as solid film lubricants, are specifically designed to reduce friction between two surfaces moving against each other. These coatings prevent galling and seizing while protecting in hot and cold temperatures or high- and low-pressure environments where traditional liquids and oils cannot otherwise be used. Dry or solid film lubricants are ideal for reducing friction in operating conditions in which fluids could freeze or vaporize. Other benefits of this lubricant type include:
- No need for oil and grease
- Improved pressure capacity
- Does not collect dirt or debris
- Operates cleaner
- Increased load capacity

Solid/Dry Film Lubricant Types
We offer a wide array of dry or solid film lubricants that can exceed military specifications, industry standards, and customer-specific requirements. From the smallest fastener to the largest vessel, Delta Coatings has you covered. Our dry or solid film lubricant product range includes:
- Fluoropolymers
- Xylan®
While all of these lubricants protect against abrasion, corrosion and elemental onslaughts, they are manufactured from varying raw materials and provide differing levels of performance and sustainability.
Fluoropolymers
Fluoropolymer coatings are superior dry or solid film lubricants that produce a smooth, hard and slick finish. They are applied using a one-coat system that fuses the coating to the substrate. In addition to a low friction coefficient, fluoropolymers offer superior resistance to heat, cold, corrosion and chemical infiltration.
Xylan®
Xylan® is a family of fluoropolymer coatings designed to prevent abrasion of Original Equipment Manufacture, or OEM, components. They exhibit excellent surface wear characteristics along with resistance to friction, heat, cold, corrosion and chemicals. Made from low-friction wear-resistant fluoropolymer composites and reinforcing binder resins, Xylan® coatings are commonly applied in thin films.
Identifying the right dry or solid film lubricant requires knowledge of in-depth substrate material performance, the type of application for which it will be used, operating conditions and expected performance levels. Our team of expert application specialists can work with you to determine the best dry or solid film lubricant for your process.
